Kiiola
Say hello. Let love flow.
Born on World Hello Day in Akita, Japan, Kiiola is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, keyboardist, broadcaster, and music educator who brings people together. Blending her Japanese roots with folk, pop, and jazz, she collaborates globally to create a hopeful sound, reminding listeners that music is the universal language of greeting.
Kiiola began playing the piano at the age of eight. Not long after discovering her passion for music, she fell in love with Michael J. Fox in a film and dreamed of living in Canada. After gaining years of experience singing as a member of professional a cappella groups in Tokyo, she decided to move to Canada to pursue her musical career. In 2008, she graduated from the Contemporary Music and Technology program at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC.
From 2007 to 2012, Kiiola hosted and produced her national award-winning radio show, Japanese Musiquest, on Kootenay Co-op Radio in Nelson, BC. The show was syndicated weekly to four stations across Canada.
In 2010, she returned to Japan and established a teaching career specializing in vocals, keyboards, and music theory. During this time, she also composed and recorded music for TV commercials and performed at festivals and events, including as a vocalist/keyboardist for a Japanese Elvis tribute band and alongside jazz musicians.
In 2016, Kiiola relocated to Toronto and quickly immersed herself in the music scene, performing with JUNO Award-winning guitarist Donné Roberts. She was selected to perform the Japanese National Anthem during the Ricoh Woodbine Mile at Woodbine Racetrack in 2018 and 2019, where her performance was broadcast nationally on TSN.
In 2020, during the pandemic, she released her single “Inori”, introducing an authentic Japanese folk melody to the Canadian music scene.

ハローひとつで、世界は繋がる。
世界ハロー・デー生まれのシンガーソングライター／キーボーディスト／ブロードキャスター／音楽インストラクター。
カナダ・トロントを拠点に、「ハロー」をキーワードにした国際的コラボレーションを通じて、音楽で人々を結ぶボーダーレスな活動を展開している。
幼少期からピアノと歌に親しみ、都内ではプロのアカペラシンガーとしてブライダルをはじめとする各種イベントに出演。その後バークリー音楽大学の提携校であるカナダ・セルカークカレッジで作曲を専攻し、ボーカル、キーボード、音楽理論、コンピューター音楽、音楽ビジネスなど、ミュージシャンとしての専門知識を幅広く修得した。
在学中よりカナダのラジオ局 Kootenay Coop Radio で、音楽番組「Japanese Musiquest」を企画・制作し、4年半に渡りホストを務めた。毎週カナダ国内5局で放送され、日本の音楽と文化を広く紹介。2010年にはカナダ・コミュニティーラジオ協会（NCRA）の最優秀ナショナルアワードを受賞した。
日本民謡の探求にも力を注いでおり、国際交流基金のサポートのもと秋田民謡グループのカナダツアーを成功に導くなど、伝統音楽の国際発信にも取り組んでいる。帰国時には奄美大島で島唄の巨匠・坪山豊氏に師事し、出身地・秋田の民謡についても梅若芸能企画を通じて学び、そのエッセンスを自身の作品に深く反映させている。
2016年よりトロントへ拠点を移し、その活動はさらに国際的な広がりを見せる。2018年・2019年にはウッドバイン競馬場の主要レースにて日本国歌を独唱。2020年のパンデミック下には、シングル「Inori」をリリース。日本の伝統的な民謡の旋律をカナダの音楽シーンに紹介し、反響を呼んだ。
現在はソロ活動に加え、カナダのグラミー賞と呼ばれるジュノー賞受賞アーティスト、ドネ・ロバーツ（Donné Roberts）のバンドメンバーとして活動。2018年より4度の日本ツアーに参加し、演奏だけでなくブッキング、コーディネート、通訳などツアー全体のマネジメントを担当。日本とカナダの音楽シーンを結ぶ架け橋として活動している。また、デュオ Baobab Cherry としての活動や、カナダ発のワールド／フォーク・グループ Sultans of String、トロント拠点の和太鼓アンサンブル Nagata Shachu など、多国籍のミュージシャンたちとのコラボレーションも積極的に行っている。
ストーリー性のある歌を軸に、フォーク、ポップス、ジャズに和の要素を融合させた独自のサウンドで、言葉や文化の壁を越えて人々を繋ぐ活動を続けている。
